FLORENCE ALEX

Described as ‘possessing an expressively warm sound and spontaneous musical imagination,’ Florence is the 2018 recipient of the Paula and Tony Kinnane Music Scholarship from the University of Queensland. Florence was awarded the Youth Development prize and first place in the Young Performer Soloist section of the Australian Concerto and Vocal competition in 2014. She has performed on national and international stages including tours to China, as a part of the UQ Symphony orchestra collaboration with X'ian Symphony Orchestra. Originally from Townsville, Florence was awarded the Theodore Kuchar Scholarship from the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the Townsville City Council in 2016. Florence is a passionate and experienced ensemble musician, having performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Queensland Youth Orchestra, The Australian Discovery Orchestra, Cadenza Chamber Players, was appointed Associate Concertmaster in the North Queensland Barrier Reef Orchestra and performed as a part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in the 2019 Brundibar concert with world renown violinist, Jack Leibeck. In 2021, Florence completed her Bachelor of Music at The University of Queensland, studying under Associate Professor Adam Chalabi.

Florence is also one of the most highly sought gig musicians in Australia, performing as a member of Vixen Strings, Dan Fontaine Orchestra, George Ellis Orchestra and the Australian Pop Quartet, amongst others, at various corporate and high-end functions. In 2022, Florence performed for the British Consulate in Sydney, the AFL season launch party at the LUME Melbourne, Ministry of Sound Classical, Sydney Children’s Foundation annual Gold Party in Sydney and had the honour of performing at the late, Shane Warne’s memorial at the MCG. She has also featured on numerous artists albums such as The Cat Empire, DZ DEATHRAYS and has done recordings for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and numerous reality shows, such as Australia Idol and The Masked Singer. This year, Florence has performed for Barack Obama at the Business Leaders Lunch, toured with international DJs, Kygo and Tiesto and performed at Michael Bublè’s Higher Tour.
